FOOD PANTRY

Each Tuesday the ReNewed Hope Food Pantry is open from 2p - 4p to primarily Johnson County community friends who find themselves in need of food.  Eligibility is proof residence and a financial challenge.

A wide variety of fresh produce, some frozen meats, selected refrigerated items, along with a wide variety of shelf stock grocery items are available.
Over 40 volunteers fill positions, such as, stocking shelves, escorting clients, grocery-recovery transportation, etc. serving not only on Tuesdays, but other days on a scheduled basis.

SPECIALTY PANTRY (Serving those diagnosed with Celiac Disease or Food Allergies)
Every Tuesday the ReNewed Health Food Pantry is open from 11am – 6 pm to serve those in the Metro area who have a medical diagnosis of Celiac disease or food allergies and are at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty level. Service is by appointment.
Foods which are available include various shelf stable milk alternatives, peanut butter alternative, egg alternatives for baking gluten free breads, cereals and pasta.  Also, there will be seasonal fresh produce as available.
Volunteer opportunities are in 2-3 hour shifts for stocking shelves, escorting clients, and select special assignments.

To qualify for services you and your physician must complete The Medical Diagnosis form. The form must be completed by one of the following medical practioners:

  • Family Practice
  • Internal Medicine
  • Pediatrics
  • Allergy
  • Gastroenterology
Please bring copies of your previous year’s Federal Income Tax return and three most recent check stubs for all who are employed in your family must be provided and will be placed in your file.

WINTER CLOTHING
Beginning each November, the ReNewed Hope Pantry begins collecting new and/or gently used winter coats, hats, scarfs, sweaters, mittens (gloves) for children and adults. 
The distribution of the available clothing is usually done during each Tuesday during the ReNewed Hope Pantry operating hours  2p—4p.
Clothing donations can be made directly to the ReNewed Hope Pantry, the church sanctuary foyer grocery baskets, or the church office when the pantry is not open.

GARAGE SALES
Two to three times each year New Haven SDA Church hosts a community garage sale to support community services.  Items of all value and size can be donated at any time during the year.
Donations to the garage sale can be made in one of three ways:  one, drop off items during Tuesday 12 noon – 4p; contact Cliff Lee 913-634-3733; or call the church office to make arrangements.


RENEWED HOPE COMMUNITY GARDENS
The New Haven SDA Church in conjunction with Kansas City Community Gardens opened a 24 plot garden area on the church property  to provide fresh produce for the church food pantries and for garden opportunities  neighbors to raise their own produce.
The 4X20 plots are available for rent at $35 per season when gardening for personal use.  There is no charge when gardening for the pantry. Plants and seeds are available through KCCG for no fee to all gardeners.
